Oils
These oils come
from different plants, seeds and nuts and can be used as food as well as for
nutrients for the skin. They contain essential oils. They are kind to the skin
and can stimulate the skin to function better, increasing the skin’s own healing
process and protection. Vegetable oils are made from renewable raw materials.
Herbs
Knowledge of the
medicinal qualities of herbs (usually called phytotherapy) is age
old. Herbs have a long and rich history in man’s life and are very
important in natural cosmetic skin therapy. Herbs have a complex and
varied organic structure. Each plant contains many different active
ingredients which combine to give them a unique taste. These
constituents can be caring and healing for the skin. Essential
Oils
Essential oils
are made from leaves, flowers, fruit, wood, bark and roots of trees and plants.
The majority are extracted via water distillation. They are very powerful and
even a small amount can have a strong effect. Essential oils can function as
antioxidants on the skin and in the body. They can be antiseptic, pH balancing,
anti bacterial and oxygenating. Some oils like lavender are adaptive which means
that they adjust to their environment and do what the body, the environment,
requires of them at that moment.
Essential oils
work especially well together with cold pressed vegetable oils.
Antioxidants
Antioxidants are
the substances which protect the cells and also the natural cosmetic products
from aging. For example the herb rosemary and vitamin E.
Hydrolates
Flower/Herbal water is a by-product that one gets from the distillation
process of flowers and herbs to essential oils. They also have unique
qualities and can be used as face water, hair rinsing and in sprays for
moistening and freshening the skin. |
